2016 Assembly Election: a Perspective of Unorganized Sectors
SEWA Union Organized a discussion on “Assembly Election: a Perspective” on 4th April 2016. The discussion was aimed at bringing to the notice of the political establishment the demands of women workers in the unorganized sector in the context of the upcoming Assembly Election. Members of Political parties took part in the discussion. Former Finance Minister T.M Thomas Isaac, Communist party of India assistant Secretary Prakash Babu, V.R Prathapan, District Congress committee secretary, Sonia George Secretary, SEWA Union, Reena S President SEWA Union, Seeta Dasan, State Committee Member, SEWA Union and District conveners and organizers were part of the discussion.


Public Hearing on Fish Vendors

SEWA Union organized a Public hearing to discuss the everyday livelihood issues faced by the women workers in the fisheries sector on 16th December 2015. Women fish vendors from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam Districts shared their stories of struggles that they experienced at their workplace in front of a distinguished jury panel. The Jury Members paid attention to the stories and they commented their recommendations. In the afternoon session the recommendation were handed over to the Government. Hon. Minister of Fisheries Department, Mr. K. Babu inaugurated the session. Justice Hariharan Nair, Chairman, Fishermen Debt Relief Commission, Ms. T V Anupama IAS, Food Safety Commissioner, Mr. Ambadi IIS, Managing Director, Coastal Development Corporation, Mr. Kishore Kumar, Managing Director, Matsyafed, Ms. Lethy J, Additional Director, Fisheries Department, Ms. Sujatha Viswanathan, Secretary, Head Load Workers Welfare Board, Ms. Nikhitha, Scientist CIFT, Mr. A J Vijayan, Social worker were part of the Jury.

International Migrant Workers Day 2015
SEWA Union Organized an event to observe the International Migrant Workers Day at a meeting in front of the secretariat on 18th December 2015. Also a poster exhibition was organized; Information related to how a person can migrate safely, what are the steps to be taken before migration, legal formalities, travel documents, authenticity of the travel documents, role of travel agents, departments related to migration etc were mentioned in the poster exhibition. A poster exhibition was inaugurated by the eminent Media person Ms. R Parvathy Devi. UTUC Leader Mr. Paul, Sakhi Women’s Resource center Director Mercy Alexander, SEWA State Committee Member Ms. Seeta Dasan and Migrant domestic workers from Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam Districts were present.
